Well I wasn’t hugely out on last year, one huge success though, my two buddies Loren and Michelle got hitched.
So I will give it another go.
Florian WILL buy that DB9.
Mulley communications will be a huge hit.
Qik will be acquired by a mobile manufacturer.
Android will blow away iPhone, this I will take a risk on and pick as my main pick.
Twitter will be acquired possibly by Google, in my opinion.
Techcrunch will be acquired, Michael Arrington will open a sawmill in Wisconsin.
Dbtwang will be an enormous hit.
Nokia will do incredible stuff on the user software side.
The recession will be tougher than we all imagined.
The Irish VC industry will cease to exist, did they ever?
An Irish blogger (not me) will launch a start-up event.
Techcrunch50 will come to Europe, it must, mustn’t it?
Voip will go nowhere like it did in 2008 as will Skype
Lisbon will be told to fuck right off again.
All the bullshit will disappear, Loren is spot on
All of you guys will do amazing stuff, all of you, now get out there and do it.

I’ll disagree with you on Android beating the iPhone in 2009. I do however see Android spreading out on to other devices, and number wise beating the Apple one, but not in the desirability stakes.
Wait until 2010 for that.

I don’t really know about the rest of your predictions but you are not taking a huge risk on me

You said a couple things that resonated and I want to leave a comment here. You’ll see my own post on VoIP up shortly. I think you’ll like what I have to say, even if I am repeating myself. hehehe
Not sure I agree QIK will be acquired by a mobile manufacturer. I hope not. It will be the death of QIK if it happens I fear. They could do far better with longer term success than saddling themselves with any handset maker.
If Twitter’s acquired by Google, I expect almost immediate stagnation. The possibility makes me glad I have lots of other options to jump to. Being bought by Google is a surer kiss of death than being bought by Cisco or Microsoft in my view.
I don’t agree on Nokia. I think they’ll stagnate, fester and lose market share worldwide in 2009. I fear for them really. Repackaging a new handset a month isn’t innovation or development. I think they’re stale and becoming boring actually. They haven’t impressed me much in a year now.
I do agree about the recession. I think you’re right and then some. I think diversification and thinking shorter term are going to be key for the ones who will thrive.
If the recession is going to be tougher than I’m imagining then we better hold on tight to something.
Still, we did it before, we’ll doubtless do it again…
Here is my thought for 09.
Pat Phelan will continue to be both uplifting and entertaining throughout the recession.
