A day at the BBC

BBC SWITCH

I spent the day at the BBC today in the wonderful company of the Switch team. Charlotte and Anthony invited me to speak on the future of mobile networks and what applications their viewers will be using in the next months/years.
We had a blast and I was amazed at the innovation taking place at the BBC especially from the Switch team in the Youth arena.
So what did I demo and chat about over the three hours?
MAXroam :-) QIK , Agito Networks, Truphone, YouGetItBack, SpinVox , vlingo , 3Skypephone, Rebtel , a lot on ZYB and their amazing Social Phonebook (Ed and Christian at ZYB pulled out all the stops getting me handsets etc for demo) , Twitterfone, ShoZu , PimpMyNews ,Shazam , ShopQwik plus lots of other stuff

Pat, very well done showing all these amazing apps. The age of app driven mobile growth is upon us! I am so excited that Apple and the iPhone are kicking all other manufactures into the ….. . This is now real 10 million downloads and what I can see on the success rate of download to install Apple got it right. I would be highly highly afraid if I would be RIM or Nokia. They need some pretty fast moves if they want to catch up.

Nokia’s…. comes with SYMBIAN (is NOT music to my ears) … … .. my prediction is 20 million iPhone sold by end of the YEAR….

    Hi Pat,

Was actually looking for bloggers that might review our greeting cards site http://greetingcardscafe.com and this article popped up that related to another project we have on the go with mobile technology. We ran a MMS project at Oxegen for An Post where people could take an MMS and send it to a number and our back-end system would make sense of the information and through an automated system – create a postcard with their image on the front and the information in the text would fall into place on the back of the postcard. We had some difficulty in getting the message out at oxegen but came accross new bluetooth technology that would push the promotion out to people passing who had bluetooth on.

But to end all that and I know now its not your expertise but we have a slick personalized greeting card site that we were hoping to create some buzz around through the web (we’re not after google rankings). To do this we have an offer running till end of August – FREE single greeting cards – just pay the postage.

Would be gratefully for a mention on your blog.

    Many Thanks
    Derek

I went Googling for “Qik e-greeting cards” and discovered your site. Could you help me get set up with that kind of service, perhaps by providing training or advice on models or avatars.

    Faithfully yours,
    Rock in Cashel
