Are the 80′s back?

Over the last few weeks I have been meeting with friends and chatting, the constant theme is that the 80′s are back.
Cinema’s are booming, my local cinema is up 30%
Strikes are back on the streets of Ireland.
Lidl and Aldi the low cost retailers are turning record profits.
We have had two window cleaners call this week, first time in 6 years.
My dad is burning bog turf.
Taxation is going to have to jump this year.
We received 4 resumes today in the office.
Unemployment is growing in double digit figures.
Time for New Order, in more ways than one.

I’m a nineties kid so I have no (valuable) input on this, but I do like New Order!

MGMT ,Empire of the Sun, Alphabeat

all current bands that sound *very* 80s…

fashion looks 80s too – Ting Tings, Calvin Harris etc…

all we need now is 80s style tv shows like Miami Vice and Magmum P.I. – with tons of glamour , action and total escapism.

Terry Prone on the telly, Mariann Finucane on the radio. Didn’t think we’d even got to the 90′s yet…

I think the 80′s are back, things are so uncertain now, that people cling onto the familiar !

Also I blogged about something similar but with a martketing twist recently.

Pet Shop Boys have a new album out. Sting’s got dark hair (ok, beard). Duran Duran were getting some award with ridiculous hair. Madonna is going out with some guy with strange hair. Cindy, Linda and Elle are still showing up in ad campaigns for beauty products. I am still watching Jeremy Brett play Sherlock Holmes on telly. I am talking silly stuff with the same friends – this time on Facebook but whatever. And things are very expensive. Yes the 1980s are back.

Strange though I have no major school exams to worry about. ;-)

I had a brilliant 80s but wasn’t living in Ireland then. I didn’t have the hair but loved the music and the travel. If I could get the keys to a light twin-engine aircraft, I’d be set to rewind a few decades.

Not to forget: Rick Astley is famous again, due to a silly web joke. At least the Berlin Wall is still down. I cross it daily. :)

A finger of fudge is just enough to give your kids a treat. It does look like the kind of crappy sweet you would eat during a recession
