ARRIVEDOK now there’s a piece of clever telecoms technology.

ArrivedOK

Sometimes there arrives a perfect solution to a real problem
I came across ARRIVEDOK on Ewan’s blog today and thought what a clever little application.
You know how you arrive abroad and you are trying to insert your MAXroam :-) or find a mobile network to text your loved one/business partners etc etc.
Usually is costs me twice as much if I don’t send an immediate text as I have a call to answer asking am I ok etc.
“The unique feature of ArrivedOK is that it alerts about one’s personal arrival instead of flight status in general. “Unlike other flight services, which are based on general flight data from dispatcher centers, ArrivedOK relies on particular subscriber’s mobile phone status. It tracks one’s actual appearance in the destination airport, so one’s friends and family are 100 percent sure the person has landed okay” – says Andrey Deriabin, Director Business Development at Eyeline Communications”

What a fantastic little application

as someone who flys alot i would not use this service – of course you arrived ok – what is the plane going to do ? – throw you out half way there?

it would be on the news if i didn’t arrieve ok – once you get on that plane you are in the hands of the gods –

is it on every plane or just a few – so then people would have to remember which flights it works on and which it doesn’t –
also flying long distances with different time zones on a regular basis gets a bit painful if the loved one is getting a text at 5am to say you to say you landed – great !!!

but when they have to be up in a few hours and go to work – being woken up by a text every few days become a pain in the ass !!

i would be more worried about all the driving up and down to dublin that you do than any flights you take ! – mind you – you do let us know when you pass the rock !

    not for me Pat

@Stephen: I typically turn on my phone when the plain is landed. I would use this when my mom travels because she typically forgets to make a call or send an sms. In this case I would know she is ok…

I think that Arrivedok it’s a pretty neat idea. One’s loved one will kick some ass for not letting her know you’ve arrived rather than for a text message at 3 am… Being woken up by an sms? one must be leaving very hard nervous life.

I travel quite a bit, and so do my family, so I think that this is an interesting idea.

I have a homemade solution that I use when a member of my family is travelling… I simply send an SMS to his/her phone when he/she is in the air (assuming that the phone is off). The content of the message is not important, so I usually just say “Welcome to X”. When he/she lands, and switches on his/her phone I then get a delivery notification ;)

This costs the traveller nothing, and I do not need to rely on him/her remembering anything!

You know, this would be useful for just everyday car travels. My mother in law always forgets to SMS us when she gets home to Carlow from Waterford. Inevitably we have to phone her and wake her to check that she arrived OK.

@teknovis – yeah i sometimes do that myself – text my partner when the flight in the air and when they land i get a delivery report – as i live close to the airport i now go to the airport to pick them up instead of having to go and park and wait around i just drive up to and pick up

@Paul M Watson – yeah you don’t want to call them when they are driving but would like to know they got home safely – so you give them plenty of time then get worried and cal and they tell you they are home hours !!!
also maybe an idea would be for people to swip their phone when they get to a certain place or go to a venue – also maybe when you get into a taxi go to a nightclub – just makes all details available should you go missing – i only say this as so many people were last seen leaving somewhere and on there way to get a taxi etc – then you would have all the invasion of privacy etc – it can be an option -

Not a bad idea, probably wouldn’t use it too much myself but I can see a use for it with younger travellers, worried parents wanting kids arrived ok, that kind of thing…
