AT&T bans all tethering/video applications

Carriers never fail to shock me, even in a week where T-Mobile block Skype on the iPhone I thought I had seen it all, until now
“AT&T Wireless terms of service now explicitly prohibit “downloading movies using P2P file sharing services”
AT&T changes TOS to limit mobile video
I know someone will probably kick my ass in the comments over my stance on net neutrality on twitter last week and I think I am well deserving of it.
When I think of net neutrality I don’t think of cellular neutrality and I guess I should.
This could have serious impact for a number of friends companies and its bloody amazing, these services drive traffic onto networks and also drives adoption.
I will certainly will be looking more closely at net neutrality after this.
As for the mobile companies, now you see why we have to work so hard to go around them, they have no idea or thought for what their customers want.
Hopefully all the other lemmings wont fall in behind AT&T

Update- AT&T relented and removed this

Certainly NOT a new thing Pat. At least people in US are better off than ppl in India or other countries where number portability is not yet available.

People here fact that too from operators and they cant even shift to another 1 because the number that they have had for years would change too.

Sucks but that how it is. What do you think is the reason India is not yet open to VOIP in spite of being the fastest growing telecom market in the woprld. the dictatorship of the telcos.

it has been like that everywhere. Its time the governments and international bodies come forward for this for the benefit of customers or else this will continue. Its time to change the old and primitive ruiles and regulations which alow telcos to have their way.
