		<description>Certainly NOT a new thing Pat. At least people in US are better off than ppl in India or other countries where number portability is not yet available. 

People here fact that too from operators and they cant even shift to another 1 because the number that they have had for years would change too.

Sucks but that how it is. What do you think is the reason India is not yet open to VOIP in spite of being the fastest growing telecom market in the woprld. the dictatorship of the telcos.

it has been like that everywhere. Its time the governments and international bodies come forward for this for the benefit of customers or else this will continue. Its time to change the old and primitive ruiles and regulations which alow telcos to have their way.</description>
