I have been running surveys among friends and can only seem to find a tiny (sub 2%) group of people who are buying the new 3G iPhone in Ireland.

Whats going on here?
With queues already in place at the Apple store in New York, O2′s UK website being swamped by demand and a seriously upgraded phone on offer I was expecting to see excitement instead I am met with “so what” response.
Of course it may be down to the fact that we have one of the worst packages on the planet with the iPhone or maybe that O2 just haven’t engaged with the customers but I think it may be down to the fact that the first launch didn’t exactly get out the door successfully and people aren’t seeing the iPhone in the “real world”

I was at a wedding last Saturday and saw a guest holding his iPhone at chest height awaiting comments or inquiries from people around him, when it didn’t happen it was sheepishly put back in his pocket.

The Nokia N95 8GB has also got of to an amazing start with more and more of them on the street now plus the package that Vodafone don’t seem to want to talk about (5GB for €29.99 a month, APN is hs.vodafone.com) appears to be catching on and the obvious mess that O2 have made of the tariffing compared to the rest of the world appears to have again destroyed any interest in the device.

Canada have gone through the same pain as ourselves with the iPhone pricing and it has developed into a huge backlash against mobile operator Rogers with the launch of an anti iPhone site and almost 50,000 people voicing their displeasure.

As I have predicted and shouted about over the last few weeks it now appears that we have confirmation that the 3G version of the Apple iPhone is imminent.

Its at 6.53 below, in fairness anyone that now buys an iPhone from O2 must be insane, I predict O2 will also reduce their tariffs to give the iPhone a proper launch in Ireland

I really hope Irish iPhone fans waited as I pleaded them to for a few weeks.
T-Mobile Germany has made huge cuts already in its tariffs this week.

The 8GB iPhone normally costs 399 euro, but depending on the service plan you sign up for, you could get it for a 300 euro discount. The special prices are as follows:

249 euro iPhone with Complete S
199 euro iPhone with Complete M
149 euro iPhone with Complete L
99 euro iPhone with Complete XL

The offer is good only between April 7th and June 30th and the 16GB iPhone remains at 499 euro. The changes have not yet been reflected onT-Mobile’s site. This move to introduce subsidized iPhone pricing is interesting, in light of early beliefs that Apple prohibited the practice to avoid reducing the perceived value of the phone. For what it’s worth, we’ve heard that iPhone sales in Germany have been disappointing.

I have just had three phone calls from Apple staff in Hollyhill today panicking about a note they received this morning the contents of which are below.

“I accept this iPhone gift from Apple on the following understanding
1. I am free to use it myself give to a friend or family member but under no circumstances is the phone to be sold or unlocked
2. I understand that each iPhone can be uniquely identified and tracked via a unique iPhone identification
3. I understand that O2 have exclusive rights in Ireland and I undertake to utilize them as my iphone carrier
4. I understand that if I breach the above that I may be subject to disciplinary action”

I have rang Apple PR, nobody home but will update once I receive further information. My sources inform me that if they don’t sign this they will not receive their iPhone. By the way if any staff members are reading this point 2 is a complete lie.

Anyone who knows me will know I am a car nut. I was glancing through feeds today and noticed that my lotto winning car was for sale on Ebay. Its the new BMW M3

We purchased a new card for my wife on Saturday, its a Mini Cooper 2006, here it is for sale at €23,000, same car in UK for the equivalent of €15400 and in the USA for €11340

The Mini that was manufactured in Europe is double the price in Ireland compared to the USA.
Oh and the BMW M3, well its available for €113,000 in Ireland and as you can see below $60,000 in the USA.
