I would have loved to have been there to collect the prize for most beautiful website in Ireland but unfortunantley work commitments kept me in JFK whilst the awards were going on, a number of people John Peavoy, Alexia Golez and others kept me up to date and John called me with the good news whilst I was on a shuttle in JFK. Jumping up and down got some very strange looks.
Seriously we are thrilled to have won this but all credit goes to Sabrina Dent on this one as the concept was totally hers.
In fact she probably explains it better than me.
Looks like it was an amazing event and all credit must go to Mr Mulley for putting on yet another great show and huge congrats to everyone who took home a gong

Twitterfone becomes more social, outlines expansion plans

Twitterfone, the service that allows you to call/phone in your message to twitter has announced new add-ons to their popular service.

The new additions to Twitterfone now allow people to listen to the last 10 messages from their friends all via their phone and directly respond to these messages or send a private message their followers.

Speaking about the new changes, Twitterfone CEO Pat Phelan said:
“The main feature request from users was the ability to not just speak to Twitter but also to listen to their friends’ Twitter messages via their phone. So I’m very pleased that Twitterfone now enables two and multi-way conversations on Twitter using any phone while you’re on the move.”

Twitterfone doesn’t need to be installed on a phone, does not need to be downloaded from the iTunes Appstore and can be used on any mobile phone on the planet. You don’t even need a screen! It’s the most accessible interface for the Twitter service.

On future expansions Phelan added:
“We’ve received a huge amount of feedback from our hyper-enthused users and we hope to provide them with what they want and we’ll be seeking some outside funding to do this. Twitterfone has become something much more than the proof of concept we initially launched.
We’re really excited about the relationship we have with our users and how we’re building a better product together.

How the new Twitterfone magic happens:

You dial the TwitterFone number, press 1 and now you’ll hear your friends last 10 tweets from your home page. Simple.

Replies and Private messages? No problem:

While listening to a tweet from a user, you can send an @ to them by just pressing 2 and recording your reply. Likewise you can send them a private d message by pressing 3.

Seriously much as I like him he has to go, I can’t take much more of this

Seriously any thoughts of users breaking a web application like twitter is just plain silly.
Lets give Jack, Ev and Biz the time the need to get it right.
It hurts me more than most since Twitterfone is dependant on the twitter API.

Today we have made a number of significant updates to Twitterfone.
We have had some failures on SMS delivery, this is now rectified, if you didn’t receive your SMS just go to log on page and we will give you a local number to verify your number.

Most importantly we are happy to announce that twitterfone has today added 13 new countries bringing us to 17 countries. You can now change countries and just ring the local in country number to send you tweets to twitterfone. We are delighted to welcome the new twitterfoners.

Twitterfone was born yesterday.
With no advertising budget it was up to myself, David Marcus, Florian Seroussi, Ivan MacDonald and Sean O Sullivan to use our individual networks to get it out the door.

First port of call was the amazing powerhouse Michael Arrington of Techcrunch.
Mike’s post got us of to a positive start and the post is running at nearly 150 comments.
Next stop was Twitter itself, Michael done a test post using Twitterfone and this was the catalyst.

After that it was fully speed ahead on Twitter, invites were begged, stole but never borrowed. The mentions of twitterfone at one stage were hitting crazy levels.
For most of last night we were one of top words on Twitter.

The total coverage was beyond anything I have ever seen in 24hrs, 148 blog mentions, 1690 mentions on Google.
So back to the product
only 3 customers problems in first 24hrs, lots and lots of users, all seemingly happy.
10,102 sign-ups
Twitterfone France being launched tomorrow.
we intend to add a couple of countries a week and will be distributing invites on a daily basis.

Rodney Rumford even gave us a video review.

So thanks to everyone who helped out, blogged, twittered and everything else especially Damien Mulley who helped me refine and refine the initial press release.
