Cork co-working, any interest?

Co working was the subject of a long discussion on Twitter today by a number of Irish and UK people.
co-working
Just what is it?
Well have a look at workatjelly to get an idea of the concept.
We already have Co-working Dublin and now we have Co-working Belfast as well.
David Rice gives us a great overview of what it is

“Bringing silicon valley thinking to Belfast by creating a cutting edge work space for digital and creative workers. It’s goal is solely to improve these industries and provide a creative atmosphere to allow ideas and companies to grow in an organic way.

Location Requirements

Here are some rough requirements for what I think a perfect location would be.

* Can seat at least @confirmed-home-team-size*1.5
* Is located in Belfast city centre, cathedral quarter, queen’s quarter or the linen quarter.
* There are several eateries, coffee shops and convenience stores within easy walking distance
* Bicycle / Car parking, would be a definite plus
* Has natural light
* Does not cost the earth”

With the amount of start-ups in Cork and a serious downturn in the property market this should be an easy put together.
I would add to David’s list
conference room
VOIP system

Tara Hunt Co-founder of Citizen Space is interviewed here on the subject

So thats it, any interest from Cork?

Count me in, as interested ….

City Centre location would be good for me so count me in for it. I’d add “Space for guests i.e. in case you have a business partner come over for a day or two, they can work with you in the space”

IIRC the ‘guest space’ Damien mentions is part and parcel of the ‘traditional’ coworking ethos and I’d certainly appreciate having the (very odd) use of a hotdesk in Cork where I could enjoy a coffe and chat with some great people too.

I might be interested, again for the odd use. I have an office space for 2 days and work from home for 3. So similar to the previos post (James Corbett).

Interested… have been looking for something like this since coming home…

I’m not sure if co-working is the same as hot-desking but I’m currently using the hot-desk facility at Rubicon 2 on the Model Farm road. I’m paying a modest monthly rent and I have to say it’s a pretty good facility.

24hr access would be another add to the list…

    Hi,
Great idea - we have a fair bit of space that can be used for co - working . Let me know if anyone wants a look !!. Monahan road - close to the city , parking ,etc .

Great idea, space for a 1-1 client meeting or co-worker as per Damien’s comment would be desirable. Sound proofing / noise reduction between co-working areas would be important. Also communal meeting / demo rooms that could be reserved.

Please include me - Have tried to access Hot Desking before just for the benefits of interacting with other people in a similar line of work… But no success. This sounds like a winner - I will spread the word.

Yes lots going on in this ’space’ at the mo.

Blick studios has just launched in Belfast which is not just focused on technical/web freelancers but anyone working in broader creative industries.

It’s also worth check out the hub in London - hubs modelled on this one, most with a social enterprise focus, are popping up all over the world. They’ve also got a whole ‘franchise’ like set of tools you can buy into. Most people hotdesk, use board/meeting rooms and take part in events etc.

I don’t care about VOIP and I’m pretty sure everyone uses mobiles, so with a big pipe everyone can sort out their own skype/whatever for occasional conference calls, etc.

    WiFi, however, is a must-have.

I’d charge a random day rate to my friend James of €25, same as the weekly rate for the steady goers.

AFAIC, it must be city centre, by which I mean walkable to coffee in under three minutes.

And for the record, I’ll happily pay the monthly whack and never use my desk (I like all you people but I prefer my turret of gloom and my PJs, thanks) just to use the conference room when I need it.

Alternatively, you can just charge me €100 a go for that, I guess :)

I’d be on for it. 24 hr access would be nice tho. Some of us have day jobs hobbies that may get in the way of the real work.

I’d be interested for 1 day a week - agree with wifi and coffee comments above. Also need to think about travel, either hand for park-and-ride or cheap parking nearby. Of course if I was being really good, I’d take the bus.

Not sure if it will make sense for me yet but definitely put me on the interested list.

Definitely interested in this too. City centre would be great but not too important if a location in the suburbs had parking.
Again I’d happily pay the monthly fee even if I don’t use all the time.
Maybe there could be one or two desks which could be rented out on a daily basis, pre-booked a week or so in advance for those ‘occasionals’ - dunno if that would work though.
    24 access is important.
