Customers pay Apple $378 million for pleasure of owning an iPhone

One of the most interesting pieces of data from yesterdays Apple quarterly reports were the income from the revenue share on the iPhone airtime.
Apple

Now a couple of sites reckon that this is the revenue from the carrier to Apple but if you examine the flow its really the “rent” or maybe even the “tithe” that iPhone users pay Apple for the pleasure of owning their device.
This is going to turn into an amazing cash cow for Apple over the next 18-24 months and I am predicting revenues to Apple of $1.4-$1.5 billion from this scheme alone.

Pat those are the total iPhone revenues for the quarter (minus the deferred income), meaning revenue share + sales of the device.

I will go much further and say that I expect it to be a $10bn business (per year) for Apple within the next 2 years.
