€130 for a 3G iPhone?

Whispers emerging from AT&T suggest that the new 3G iPhone will retail @ $199 with a two year contact.
With 18 months in Ireland and 24 months in the UK now being the average mobile phone contract length are we going to see an iPhone break the £100 mark in the UK?
The phone at this price will certainly hit Steve Job’s ambitious target of 10 million iPhones in year one and will lead to enormous profits for the company from the revenue share deals.

This price will be be a serious concern to other mobile phone manufacturers with the phone being directly priced against Nokia’s premium N95 8GB and with exchange email also being talked about on this upgrade Blackberry manufacturer RIM will be watching developments closely. Luca even goes so far to suggest that RIM may be developing software for the device.

And what about the previous 3 million iphone buyers who paid $399/$499 for an iPhone? How can Steeve deal with that??

To be very honest I don’t pay for my iphone…I ask Pat and he sends me one…lol
But I was more thinking of those people that have actually paid in store full price for an obsolete device…what a waste.
Are they planning to have a trade-in plan?

    Hey Florian
what a great idea, trade in your iPhone 100 bucks and the carrier gets it back out for free with a contract
    that’s a definite winner
    not everyone will want 3G

I think the question is what the cost will be in Ireland. So 02 offering a 130 euro phone? To be honest, that’s not the real issue. They could give the phones away. The cost of the plans is what is crucial.
