Faith no more

51968737
My faith always seems to be stronger around Christmas, I was christened and raised as a catholic
Its probably out of habit but we always go to midnight mass as a family and I really enjoy the carol’s.
Today is the first Christmas Eve in a long time where my sons 16 and 22 refused to go to confession with me.
I went any-ways but more out of habit than any deep understanding.
I am just back from the city having met Damien Mulley, John Peavoy and Liam Casey for a Christmas Eve coffee and mentioned to my boys about Mass tonight.
A resounding no was what I received.
I am sad but that’s their decision.
Those pervert priests have a lot to be sorry for including a dad who wont be taking his boys to church tonight.
A sad sad night.

What a sad statement towards the church.

I hope two things: The church can somehow turn around the perception. Also, perhaps your boys change their mind(s).

    Merry Christmas Pat!

Fantastic, fantastic news. Two (going on three) more souls saved from religion.

Hi Pat, I suspect the boys were already disinclined towards church but were happy to go along with the tradition. However, things have now radically changed and just going along with things now really grates with some people. Many people who don’t have deeply held religious beliefs could treat Christmas mass as a family/community experience and share in that aspect. That’s been taken from society though. While this atheist has tempered his views (through experience obviously) on religion I can’t conceal my hatred of the RC church now.

I think this is the position for many families now.

Would be interested to see how many go to mass around Christmas because they’re Catholic or because ‘it’s tradition’.

Our family were certainly the latter, while we still went.

It has been a hard year for my family too- I can sense my husband’s faith wavering. Sometimes I think it can be worse around Christmas for some reason- maybe its the high expectations, I don’t know- anyway- I feel for you and all you can do is pray that they will have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ- True- church does keep you walking the line better but if a child is raised in the faith he will most likely return to it when he is older. God Bless :)
