I run my business on my cell phone. Voicemail destroys that illusion and sounds really unprofessional. Found this company at RingAlice.com that kills your voicemail, replacing it with a person who takes your unanswered calls. Really revolutionary, has that personal human touch, and sounds very sophisticated for $30.

I remember about 8 years ago being hugely impressed by a Swiss mobile company that emailed the voicemails to the users email account – so instead of dialling the voicemail access that you could click on the mp3 in your inbox.

Would love to trial Spinvox…..

Hopefully they will include Ireland soon!

Virgin Mobile in Oz provided this service to their customers, it was brilliant. It is especially handy if you are often stuck in long meetings or in an area with bad coverage as txt messages get through easier than calls in or out
The service in Australia had some problems with different accents etc. I would like to see how well this one works if there is a trail going.

I hate voicemail. It’s unreliable, messages can take for ever to get through, you have to go through the sequentially, and, and and… voicemail to text sounds great to me. And I’d love to hear how it handles Cork accents!

Pat, yet again i owe you a favour, im the worlds worst for checking messages. Great idea for an application, this has to be a multi million dollar idea.

This is great, I never bother to check my voicemails and sometimes they’re actually important, only minor concern with that is that I’ve noticed that sometimes when in Europe outside of major cities my sms’s only come in spuratically, Haven’t yet tried with maxroam in these areas though (t-mobile usa seems to have some issues at times with roaming agreements)

I’m personally not a voicemail fan but do find myself leaving voicemail messages all the time… Also, I usually don’t pick up my cell phone if I get a call from someone who is not in my addressbook. Usually, I rather them leave a message and if I see that I need to talk to the person after they left a message, then I’ll call them back.

I agree with Pat. I’ll ignore my voicemails or sometimes let my storage fill up while I am traveling to avoid having to wade through the messages while roaming (expensive!). I’d love to try the alternative to voicemail and will sign up for SpinVox through an invite or whenever it’s generally available.
