iPhone 3G cracked

Well today was the day and all went well in the end.
Its a real simple process and you are not interfering with the phone itself in anyway whatsoever. Watch the QIK below and you will see an iPhone 3G running on Vodafone 3G

I have tried every option so far and none of them worked but I got a sample pack a few weeks ago from SIMable and decided to try that, it worked first time and with a little bit of chopping and changing I have the phone running on 3G vodafone.

I have one SIMable to give away, leave a comment if you want it and I will pick one comment

Disclaimer
SIMable tell me they aren’t guaranteeing anything on iPhone, I made now changes except on 3G and it worked first time.

    Hey Pat,

Wow… that’s incredible! I’d love to get my hands on a copy of SIMable.

Thanks so much for offering it up!

    Hey Pat,

Thanks for the vid buddy. I don’t want that Simable thing because I am in India and Iphone 3G is not launched here yet. :P

But yeah, do you think Iphone 3G is worth the hype it has generated all over the world. Is it the best cellphone available today or is good because we see a huge number of apps available for it?

I really don’t understand all that hype after this TOY. :)

    Hi Pat,

Thanks for the blog post, I’ve been thinking about doing this with mine on T-Mobile so it’s good to see the simable thing worked. I like the fact you don’t have to do software updates to get it working either and the location based stuff still works.

I wouldn’t mind it if my comment is good enough.

    Thanks
    Jake

If you give me a SIMable chip, I’ll buy the paper punch AND I will also buy a 3G iPhone to release onto the Vodafone network as a present for my special lady.

  9. Posted by Jay 11th August, 2008 at 4:36 pm

Is this the SIMable chips they are selling on their website or a custom one which they will sell later?

Shameless plug: Great minds think alike :-) We also used SIMable in this week’s video podcast to do this live in Covent Garden. Dan Lane also demos the steps to make this work on an iPhone 3G. It’s SIMable’s standard product available now from their website (no link, just about to become a customer…)

That looks fantastic. However, the simable website says that they don’t support the iPhone. Is their site out of date or have you done something extra to make it work? Also, do you know if this will work for the older iPhone, or only the 3G one?

    thanks
    Andy

That’s very interesting. I thought we’d have to wait for the software 3g unlock from the iphone dev team to be honest.

Nearly all the SIM based solutions seem to be failing with the new iPhone due to the changes Apple made with how the IMEI is picked up from the iPhone.

I’d live a SIMable if you still have one. I bought my iPhone online and it is locked to AT&T! Didn’t particularly want to switch from 3 Ireland anyway though.

Good to see you strike another blow for mobile freedom! And yes I’d love a SIMable please.

  16. Posted by Jose 11th August, 2008 at 7:32 pm

Great video, however I hope you don’t get a lot of strange calls for giving away your number.

I take it there are two parts to this unlocking solution? the SIMable hardware and the software application?

I would definitely like to get the one you are giving away.

    Regards

    Jose

What happened? There was a link to you from TechCrunch this morning, and then it went away. I know you are not TC, but I can’t ask on that page because the page is gone!

    I’m interested too.

    Good evening,
That is awesome! I am a Bible college student entering into my final year to receive a batchelors degree. With a wife and 4 kids money is tight, so I would love to have a chance at this to use on my 3G iPhone with our T-Mobile account. Thnks either way for the opportunity.

Whow this is really cool… unlocking your iPhone with an app.

I’ve read the news on iPhoneclub.nl because I’m waiting myself for an unlock for my iPhone. I looked up your blog to download the app but you are going to give 1 away? Oh well… I hope I win :)

  22. Posted by jhet 12th August, 2008 at 11:06 am

interesting!!! i wanna try that simable =)

  24. Posted by B-ComeThe1 12th August, 2008 at 3:32 pm

Oh yeah - i’d like to get one :-)

  25. Posted by John 12th August, 2008 at 4:15 pm

It’s good news, but I’d like a cheaper bite of the Apple.

We need a source of reasonably priced 3G iPhones (which I’m looking into as I write)…or failing that, for the Pay As You Go ones to hit the shops.

In the meantime well done to the guys at Simable and to you for telling us about it.

  26. Posted by Ian 12th August, 2008 at 6:36 pm

Sounds an excellent idea - I think I need a simable to find out what the benefits really are . . . well done Pat.

  27. Posted by Obskure 12th August, 2008 at 7:10 pm

    Hi Pat.
Thanks for the heads up. Hope I’m lucky enough in the simable lotto. It should spur me on to do a how-to vid on YouTube. Thanks & good luck

  28. Posted by Obskure 12th August, 2008 at 7:36 pm

    Hi again.
On a side note, I’ve been (trying) to read this site on my iPhone 3g and safari keeps crashing. Don’t know if it’s the phone or not but it’s quite irritating.
Truth be told, it happens a lot on different sites anyway. Just thought I’d mention it, is all.

    Hi Pat

that’s very good I was looking at getting something similar for mine for when I go away at the end of the month so I didn’t have to pay roaming charges as I have a couple of Spanish Sim’s

There were couple of other similar Sim’s that only work with a couple of providers,

If you like I can lend you a Spanish SIM’s to test if it works.

    Thanks

    Hi Pat et. al,

Currently I am using a hardware workaround, known here in Vietnam as “Hypersim”, which is pretty much the same approach as the SIMable. My issue is that I will periodically lose the carrier signal, and the only way to get it back is to put my SIM card back into a “normal” phone, and reacquire. then back into the iPhone, and things work well again. Happens a few times a day, so enough to be a pain in the …. have you noticed a similar issue with the SIMable, esp. if you move between cells? Thanks!

What a fantastic tool …i want one

Thanks for sharing your info …very good video

    Hello Pat

Any news on who the winner is, or when will it be announce?

    Best Regards

    Stare at my message Pat
    its intent is subliminal
You will give me the pack
    containing your SIMable.

    Did it Work?

  37. Posted by Ciaran 26th August, 2008 at 12:49 pm

Pat, what modifications did you have to make to the simable card to get it working?

    Tks.

  38. Posted by John 27th August, 2008 at 2:52 pm

Is the Simable solution still working ok as some people have reported faults with it?

    Did anyone win?

  39. Posted by Fabricio 29th August, 2008 at 12:06 am

This SIM is CRAP! Didn’t work more than two hour on my iPhone 3G. The worst sim card ever! I have rebel sim and this one took more than one day to lose signal.

  40. Posted by Graham 22nd September, 2008 at 11:27 am

Agreed - I’ve also tried it and found it useless. Infact the Simable website is no longer offering it as a solution for the iPhone and are offering refunds for those people who did buy one as a solution for unlocking the iPhone….

  41. Posted by Dave 15th October, 2008 at 2:40 am

Has anyone managed to confirm if the unlocked iphone 3g works on the 3 network in Ireland?
