agreed, the rates are a total rip off, 99c for 50mgs and 2c per kilobyte after, so if you work on that basis, there being 1024 kilobytes in a megabyte, they are giving you a value of over 1000 euro in your 50 megabytes… that in itself is just robbery… so in effect, it is virtually impossible to go the 50megs unless you’re downloading from the app store like a mad man… so the minimum of 99c per day equates to over 350 euro spent over a year, and that’s for basically using it at a minimum, as you would, checking email or other basic things

Pat, not wanting to correct you here, but like Alan says, the iPhone 3GS 16Gb model in Ireland is €519, and in the UK is £440, which at Google’s rate today (Sat 20th) is €520 – so actually model prices are comparative. However completely agree with you on the day-to-day pricing, 99c/day for 50Mb is pretty crazy.

On friday I got a new iPhone 3GS on o2 on bill pay…..brought it home…and had no coverage on o2 in my house…

So on Monday I brought it back and got my money back. The reason I returned it was the aforementioned coverage but the minute my deal was canceled I realised I was an idiot for signing up in the first place.

I’ve been wanting an iPhone for ages, and they are a great phone, but its insane to sign up for such shit deals in order to use it. Im glad I cancelled it; I shouldn’t have supported such robbery in the first place.

Life’s too short.

02 are acting like many international companies in the Irish market, they are simply charging the price the market is willing to pay. There are many examples, concert tickets, even “cut price” super markets. Until people stop supporting over priced goods and services this will continue.

And still people buy the iPhone in this country. O2 have a monopoly on a product “that everyone wants” and they can charge what they like for it. That’s business.

I’ve never been able to justify the steep price O2 want for just a phone. I don’t expect that to change.
