I looked into getting the iPhone a few months ago, and although I’m with Meteor, I think it’s the same all across the board here.

Meteor have a package where they give you 200 mins, 200 texts and 1GB of data download per month for €50.
When I said that was unreal (!) I was told by the Meteor person “yeah, well, cuz we give such a good deal on data download, you’ll find tha’ you spend less toime phonin’ people and more toime online, so that’s why we give a really huge data package”.

Since everyone here excepts these charges, they will carry on. A few of us reject them, but not enough to make a difference.

I’m English (don’t knock me for it, it was me mam and dad’s fault) We English are the same, we piss and moan and pay up while doing it and are probably subsidising half of Europe. Or so I thought till I seen what you poor buggers are getting. O2 are already the greediest mobile phone operator in the UK but it is an absolute disgrace what they are charging you. For God’s sake you’re only a kick in the arse away from Northern Ireland and short boat ride away from us. O2 are just taking the p*ss. You should all start a public campaign and shame them till they drop their prices.
They posted on their own site yesterday that their stocks were valued at 13.05 euros each,

The reason Ireland gets ripped ff so much is because no-one complains about the prices. Everyone just goes, Ah sure, if it costs that much, sure what can ya do? We will continue to be ripped off as long as we are willing to pay extortionate prices for very little!

3 years on? still fools, not even the fact that the package is still not unlimited.

The latest packages are for 150mb, where my original near 3 year old package came with 1GB?

What sort of ‘upgrade’ is this?

im currently looking at buying an iphone. but seeing the cost of the monthly tarrifs are very off putting. i switched from o2 to meteor due to o2 being much more expensive.unforunately meteor dont do iphone. ive live in the uk and tarrifs are so much cheaper. i think the irish people are held to ransom by all mobile phone companies! they hold a monopoly and are reluctant to change and be competitive against each other. i dint think i dont think i will buy an iphone now due to the prices.something has tobe done about this greed!!

I’m thinking about buying the iPhone 4 from UK websites as I believe it would be cheaper than buying it in Ireland (if and when it comes out here). What happens if I do that? I’m guessing Ireland won’t have access to all the sofware iPhone offers. I currently have a Nokia N73 which I was able to update online in UK, but haven’t been able to since moving here.
Irish tarriffs are hugely expensive and the phones themselves cost a lot more here. Makes me mad

The Irish being ripped off yet again.
I cant personally justify spending that much money on a phone no matter how many bells and whistles it has. By buying the phone overseas, you are still adding to the Apple balance sheet. Whats wrong with that you may ask.
I can assure you that Apple knew the pricing structure that o2 was going to implement and I will tell you why they knew.
If o2 were going to charge say 100 Euro a month for the iphone on contract, then that would chase away potential customers so not only did o2 find it an acceptable contract, but Apple must have agreed also.

Prices are different in the UK as o2 would be told to stick the iphone as far up as it would comfortably fit and until the Irish start doing the same and voting with their feet,you will continue to be ripped off.
o2 would not be in business without customers and the sooner they are made to realise that the better for everyone.
Make them pay and there will be change.Keep paying exorbitant prices and you will continue to be ripped off.
Tje policy of the customer is always right has been forgotten and just remember, its not based on ‘studies’ done in other countries, its based on what a company feels their average customer can afford to pay. You dont buy a bag of potato’s in Dunne’s stores based on a study done on pricing in Australia so dont accept that rubbish.

I’m normally the first one to jump on the bandwagon and start decrying any institution that I’m urged to but I fear your post is overly harsh on O2. O2 don’t charge those prices for the Iphone, Apple do. Fact. Also, there is a larger customer base in other countries so it’s easier to have more competitive prices.
