Man gets £31,500 bill for downloading “Prison Break”

Yes Telecom landed Ian Dobsyn, from Manchester with a £31,500 ($62,441) bill recently for downloading FOX’s Prison Break
Surely the mobile companies have some sort of early warning systems for this kind of behaviour but unfortunately no is the answer. Most mobile companies dont possess the ability to bill live data usage and usually the bill is retrospective or certainly delayed.
Mr Dobsyn had to resort to the law and got the bill almost elimanated.

i believe that it is totally acceptable that ‘unlimited’ data(or voice) plans could have charges when users go over a certain level. instead if there is a ‘fair use’ limit the service should stop functioning when that limit is reached; but nothing should be charged to the customers beyond the agreed monthly fee.

I wish the Irish Government would stop shoving mobile broadband into press releases on what great progress we are making catching up with the rest of the developed world when it comes to broadband penetration. It cant be used as a standard broadband connection or things like this will occur. Mobile broadband should be seen as a business tool.
