Standby for naked dash, 3 Skypephone rocks
This is turning into a kind of confessional get it all off my chest day, feast on the humble pie and get it out of the way.
I was 100% wrong on the 3Skypephone, the bloody thing rocks

I started testing the 3Skypephone seriously a couple of weeks ago and can’t get the damn thing to fail, in the past week I have chatted with friends from 6 countries for over an hour per call and still no fail, remember this is on a mobile phone folks, no wires.
It has totally refocused me on growing my Skype contact list.
I am just back from a friends office, I set him up with a phone as he does a lots of business in Bulgaria, all his Bulgarian contacts can now call him on his mobile phone free. well not free but you need to keep a credit of €10 per month.
One thing I cant yet figure out is why every Pole, Latvian, Lithuanian in Ireland isn’t carrying one of these.
Any idea’s folks?
I am roam4free on Skype if you want to add me.

What is the quality like for a call from handset to handset?
Just had one, FREE mobile to mobile in Ireland.
4.5 out of 5.0
person on other side said as good as his mobile
It would be ideal if people could make SkypeOut calls or use a SkypeIn number. Unfortunately the 3Skypephone has only part of the Skype features. Too good to be true. Nothing is perfect
what surprises me is that with this why there has not been a proliferation of calling cards and other call through and/or callback services that use skypenames as an alternative to the usual PSTN breakin numbers.
Sure you can take part in Spencer Tunick’s Cork event in June, with only your Skypephone to hide your modesty!
Jesus, Conall, I remember the Legion of Mary protesting about the Chain Gang poisoning the minds of the Cork young ladies, what’s the world coming to?
Pat,
What are the roaming fees like? I am curious about maybe getting one of these to use in the States.
This little phone is one of the cleverest little devices to hit the GSM world in a long time. What is really appealing is the amount of functionality that it packs in vs the price tag. End result is a device which is within the budget range of school children/caring parents.
Both of my little darlings requested Skype phones for Christmas this year – why? Because virtually everyone else in their classes has one! Whereas six months ago the default messaging mode for these kids was SMS, now they have moved on to multi-party IM – so much better because it is not limited to one-to-one chat and above all is free (subject to the GBP 10 monthly topup). And they also have the benefits of free voice calling (although strangely they seem to prefer IM) and presence.
The fact that this tiny little handset comes ready to operate as an ersatz iPod AND has a 2.0 Megapixel camera capable of producing 15 fps videos is truly amazing.
Also – with a pre-paid web access (Unlimited for GBP 0.50 per day, GBP 2.50 per week, or GBP 5.00 per month) – these little devices are getting used for e-mail, mobile web browsing. media streaming (audio and video) and a multitude of other roles!
One te joke of the UK Mobile operators – H3G are now proving that they REALLY do know how to deliver really compelling products and services!
Oh – and speech quality on Skypephone to Skypephone is great – because the speech transmission path is GSM on both legs; i.e. not a VoIP call at all – just a free GSM call!
