Vodafone launch Pocket Life, ZYB anyone?
Whats going on in Vodafone?
Earlier in the year they purchased Zyb the European based address book back-up service, I am a huge fan and was informed by senior sources that it was going to become a loopt based play eventually. As you can see from the image below everything was moving in the right direction.

Today Jason tells us that Vodafone are launching Pocket Life
“The service allows users to update their friends on their current locations automatically, and also allows them to syndicate status updates and their recent activities to popular social networks like Facebook and MySpace”
Surely this is exactly what Zyb already does?
Am I missing something?

to be honest zyb is great for storing and syncing your mobile contact on the web. But let’s face it, the website is early stage at best and the location approach is just lip service (simple map view of contacts, no sharing of real time user location, places etc.). This won’t be a hook enough to establish another social network.
I understood that they will integrate zyb as just another functional service in a broader context eventually.
They kept Pocket Life well under the radar, but looks like a promising community and branding basis to integrate existing Vodafone services. From what I hear uptake is going through the roof across regions.
